Goals
* To build a library of short video interviews of high-profile women in technology fields.
* To improve the interest and knowledge base of students in my WS 320 and WS 525 courses with pertinent visual media.
* Model best practices in interview and recording techniques.
Objectives
1. Seek out women in mechanical engineering, computer engineering, biotechnology, oceanography, geography, etc. industries who have patents or who are making a significant contribution to their fields.
2. If they have video interview files available, catalog them online.
3. If none exist, schedule interviews at their labs.
4. Send interview questions ahead of the interview so the interviewees have time to prepare responses.
5. Order necessary equipment and secure transportation to the interview site.
* If captioning equipment and staff are available, include them.
6. Setup, record, and take down sound and video equipment on time.
7. Use broadcast quality digital media.
8. Design a template that includes music, titles, logo screens, credits, captions, etc.
9. Edit interviews to include the template elements, up to fifteen 3- to 6-minute responses, and a recommended reading list.
10. Optimize final segments for online viewing: downloadable and streamable file formats.
11. Copy master tapes to DVD and store in the safe.
12. Copy optimized files to CD and send to each crew member and interviewee.
13. Embed code to play video in the course websites and public database.
