Research on the topic of video interviews about women technologists
Each time I search online for video interviews, I find more and more. I try different search strings to locate new sources. We are out there in the media. The database I’m building intends to make the search faster and easier.
The interview questions seen online vary somewhat from my recommended list but mostly cover how they got started, what obsticles they overcame, what their passions are, and trends they notice. The excitment viewed in the women’s faces as they tell us their stories is inspiring. They talk of the adventures to be had–a great change from the quiet acceptance of standard roles required in cultures and ages past.
In general the online clips are short, easy to download, and inspiring. They are not yet easy to find. I have been searching for online interviews for almost 2 years now and have just under 20 in my database.
Because I work alongside numerous women, I know that we as a group are successful. I have been dumbfounded, however, about the obstacles we face; some were not apparent to me; working in my own bubble. The messages I hear in the videos are mostly about how to overcome the obstacles of acceptance, lack of opportunities, pay inequity, and respect.

The planning of the Video Interviews project began in Fall of 2006. I searched hundreds of online sources for examples of video interviews of female technologists. The few I have found are listed on the delicious/gendertechnology web site.
